Multi-published author of scorching hot romance, Karen Erickson aka Sticky Bun, is here today to play with the Smutketeers! We’ve played with her before in person, but never on our blog, so this is a first for all of us (and there aren’t a whole lot of firsts left for this smutty lot, so this is a treat!).
Why do we call her our Sticky Bun? R.G. gave her the name, but it’s so cute that it stuck (pun intended), and we do like all things sweet and sticky…But we’re not going to explain ourselves. In fact, we want you to guess! Tell us why you think she’s called Sticky Bun.
The most creative answer will win an ecopy of Jesse’s Girl by Karen Erickson. A winner will be chosen tomorrow at noon PST and announced here in the comments. So be sure to check back to see if you’ve won! Don’t be afraid to be smutty! All for Smut and Smut For All!
Now, on to the interview…
~Sticky Bun, your next book, FORBIDDEN, is a hot, hot, hot ménage story from Samhain. We love a good ménage! Tell us all about it.
Okay here’s the blurb
Playing With Fire, Book 1
He always wanted what he couldn’t have…
Forbidden desires, secret needs…that’s not what girls are made of. At least, that’s what
Michaela’s past boyfriends told her when she revealed her darkest, dirtiest fantasies. She knows she’s better off without the exes, but she’s lonely—and horny. It doesn’t help that her roommate, Austin, is the most gorgeous man she’s ever laid eyes on. Too bad he’s bisexual…or so he says.
There’s a reason Austin hasn’t been with a woman in a long time. The only one he wants is Michaela. He’s fought his attraction for months, waiting for a sign, desperate to show her she’s everything he wants in a lover. One illicit kiss leads to an explosive night of sex that leaves her wanting more—yet afraid. But Austin is a patient man, more than willing to tear down her boundaries piece by piece. Exposing her to pleasures she’s never known.
Trust leads her to whisper her most deeply held fantasy. One that rouses a new emotion Austin didn’t expect: jealousy. Possessiveness. He’s the only man he wants in her life. And he’ll do whatever it takes to prove it…
It’s about a man who is attracted and loves a person, not necessarily a gender. And though he’s been involved with more men than women over the years, he’s discovered that his attraction to Michaela runs deeper than just a fling. She means something to him and he wants to explore that with her. And he wants to help her explore all of her hidden sexual desires…
~There’s a hint in your book’s warning about ‘delicious punishments’. Can you give us a taste of what that might entail?
Oh, let’s get to the good stuff, right? :) Well, Austin discovers that Michaela likes it naughty so he teases her. Makes her wait, makes her work for it, drives her crazy with wanting him. Nothing too outrageous but he does treat her like the bad girl she is.
~Why do you think ménage-and bi-menage in particular-are so incredibly popular among readers of erotica and erotic romance lately? We know why we like it, but what do you think?
It’s such a fantasy – having all of that attention from sexy men focused on one woman in a traditional ménage. For a bi-menage, I think it becomes titillating, wicked, that everyone shares everything, no barriers, everyone’s happy. And it’s so freeing – no labels, no “he’s a man, she’s a woman, let’s keep it traditional.” Most everyone who reads books with this sort of subject matter would never do anything like this, but it’s certainly fun to fantasize about.
~What else are we going to see from you? What are you working on now, and what’s out next?
I just finished writing a sexy little novella that hopefully our editor (yes I share the same editor as every one of the Smutketeers! Yay!) will enjoy. Tangled, the second book in the Playing With Fire series is coming out January 12th at Samhain. And Tangled is smokin’ hot, just as hot as Forbidden. I had so much fun writing this series. I hope it shows in the books.
~What is a day in your writing life like? We like to imagine you sitting by the pool, a hot cabana boy (or two) flexing their well-oiled muscles in between hand-feeding you grapes and massaging sunscreen onto your….um…shoulders…But, alas, we also know the Smutketeers are more often chained to our computers in flannel pj’s than chained to a bed in silk lingerie. So, confess!
I do have a pool but right now it’s cold and foggy and the only ones hanging out down there are my cats so I don’t think they’d make good cabana boys damn it! I too am chained to my laptop in my sweats, diet Coke by my side as I type my life away. I wish I was chained to a bed in silk lingerie…
~Where can we find you on the Internet? We know Feisty cheats on us and blogs with you on Naughty and Spice. We’re open-minded girls, so we don’t mind…not too much…Tell us about Naughty and Spice, your website, and wherever else you hang out on the Net.
Oh yes, Feisty does the dirty with us over at Naughty & Spice (http://naughty-and-spice.com) and I blog there every Wednesday. I also hang out with The Sizzling Pens (http://sizzlingpens.blogspot.com) every other Monday, another great bunch of super hot writers. You can find all of the latest information on my books, etc. at my website (http://karenerickson.com) and I blog at least five days a week over at my personal blog (http://karenwritesromance.com/blog). I have Twitter and Facebook accounts but lately I’m hardly on them because I’m trying not to be distracted! Those sites are like crack, you can’t stop.
~Do you have any live appearances coming up where stalkers…um…fans…can meet you in person, or online?
I have an interview up over at Book Junkie that was posted on the 13th (a Friday too, spooky!). You can check it out here –
http://myfoolishwisdom.blogspot.com/2009/11/interview-giveaway-with-karen-erickson.html
I will also have an interview up on The Romance Studio Blue site for the month of December.
~And now for some quick questions, in classic Smutketeers style:
~sushi or a well-grilled steak? Steak! Yummm…
~beer on tap or something pink and sweet and girly? Pink and sweet and girly. I don’t like beer. Blech.
~mountain lodge ski trip or lounging on the beach ? The beach—I was married on Maui and desperately want to go back.
~ boxers, briefs or commando? Commando
~cozy pj’s or sleeping in the buff? Cozy pj’s – I have kids who sneak into bed with us on occasion still. That’s a little freaky, LOL.
~rope, handcuffs, or silk scarves? Silk scarves
~voyeur or exhibitionist? Voyeur
Thanks for having me Smutketeers! You know how much I love every single one of you. Smooches!
Karen

Sticky Bun, huh? Hmm okay well maybe it’s related to buns…perhaps Ms. Erickson sat in a sticky chair after a kiddy art project went wrong? That would give her Sticky Buns – but not Sticky Bun. Hmmm
Back to the drawing board.
Maybe Ms. Erickson enjoys a good sticky bun? I know I do :o)
But, i’m guessing that’s not it either.
Ahhhhh here’s my final guess.
One day, Ms. Erickson decided to wear a bun in her hair, but as it was a windy day, and she knew that bun wouldn’t make it without a little extra help, she blasted it with hairspray. So much hairspray, that it got sticky…very sticky!
Sticky Bun!
Now i’m curious — do we HAVE to wait until tomorrow to find out why she’s called Sticky Bun?
by Jo K November 16th, 2009 at 10:21 amKaren is a sticky bun because she is sweet, makes you feel happy and incredibly difficult not to lick.
by Kate Pearce November 16th, 2009 at 10:30 amI love her and her books to bits
Miss Karen is called “Sticky Buns ” Because she likes to eat them as she writes those amazing hot scenes. Which are extermly yummy.
by Deb November 16th, 2009 at 10:55 am[...] The wonderful ladies over at the Smutketeers interviewed me today. And there’s a creative contest going on where you could win a copy of my short story Jesse’s Girl! Go check it out. [...]

Karen I can not wait to find out..
Awesome interview! I love our little sticky bun!!
by Feisty November 16th, 2009 at 12:30 pmIn a freak maple syrup incident, Karen unwittingly sat in a pool of it and subsequently glued herself to the conference table during an informal meeting with an office full of hot, visiting consultants.
Or not? :D
by Fedora November 16th, 2009 at 12:39 pmKaren has a super power, and you have all outed her!
That’s right! Karen has the power to pick up things with her as…er…butt :)
You know Spiderman? How he sticks to things because of the follicles on his fingers? Well, it’s something like that!
Karen – congrats on your release! It sounds very very yummy!
by Natasha A. November 16th, 2009 at 12:52 pmMy son would be THRILLED to hear that his mom is compared to Spiderman. He wants to be Spiderman when he grows up (he’s 5). LOL
And no one WILL EVER GUESS THE REAL REASON for the nickname. Hahahahahaha.
by Karen Erickson November 16th, 2009 at 12:58 pmNo but I’m having a fantastic time with all this creativity. ;)
by R.G. Alexander November 16th, 2009 at 1:02 pmFedora..lol Oh sweetie, you have an awesome tell started there :D
I think all these should be in a book.
Great job everyone.
by Deb November 16th, 2009 at 1:34 pmThat was the not-so-secret nickname given to you as a child by your favorite aunt because of your fondness for her specialty…
by Fedora November 16th, 2009 at 2:22 pmSticky Buns, huh? Maybe an incident at the IHOP some kid left behind a sticky bun on the seat which Karen accidently nudged with her…uh..bum and it stuck to her behind when she stood up.
I could think of naughtier stuff, just the way my mind works.
by Armenia November 16th, 2009 at 4:03 pmThese are hysterical! Keep ‘em coming! *smooches* Sticky Bun!

mwahahahahaha
Besides, the truth is far less exciting than being stuck to a table or having super powers ;)
Wow! Thanks much! And aw… we don’t get to find out the truth behind the moniker? We’re just going to keep coming up with more and more fanciful explanations…
