The fabulous Red Garnier, author of smokin’ hot stories of love, is visiting the Smutketeers today to chat about the big L, the one thing which binds people together in so many ways. It makes us crazy. It makes us do things we would never do otherwise. (Okay, Feisty and I would probably do it, anyway…but that’s us…).
We love our darling Red, so she is the perfect person to talk to us today about love! And while you’re here, you can check out her latest books, SATIN SASH, and her upcoming anthology, MEN OF DANGER!

Love – a gift or a curse?
I think that my curse is this: I am in love with love. I love what it can do to a person—broaden your smile, brighten the gleam in your eyes, give your life a new meaning. Which makes me a love junkie. God, is that good or is that bad?
I don’t know! But I know that I must get a dose of it every day from Mr. Red, and I must read about, write about it, every day.

I fell in love with romances the first time I opened my first, a Kathleen E. Woodiwis. From then on I went to fall in love with dozens of more authors, their heroes, heroines, their settings, the old, opinionated grandma and the handicapped little sister. Then I found erotic romance, my very first was a Shiloh Walker book from Ellora’s Cave. And I fell in love again with this genre, so free, so brazen, sexy, representative of the strong, intelligent women of our day.
Now, to be able to sit down, with the support of my husband, and write everyday. To be able to open my email to discover someone, someone I didn’t know before, fell in love with my book, the Hero, the nosy mother, his butler, or his pet critter, is something I cannot describe in words.
I feel blessed to write for these amazing epublishers and publishers who’ve paved the road for dozens of delicious voices out there I, for one, couldn’t do without now. I feel blessed for my editors, each with new wisdom to impart. I feel blessed for all my friends, who have been there every step of the way (it does get rocky sometimes, as does everything worthwhile in our lives. Much like a burgeoning romance itself!). I feel blessed for the trust each reader gives me when they buy a book by some new author who’s last name sounds like shampoo and gives her a try. None of this would be possible without you. So thank you, to every reader, every writer, editor, everyone who works in this field – for loving romance like I do.
What made YOU fall in love with romance? I’d love to know.
And don’t be shy! One commenter will win a print copy of my RED HOT SUMMER anthology with Maya Banks, Elle Kennedy, and Mallery Malone.

by Red December 7th, 2009 at 10:52 amHey Red!
by Wylie Kinson December 7th, 2009 at 11:57 amMy fave part of a romance is the period of unrequited love, where there seems to be no resolution, only longing and heartbreak. Then voila – the amazing author twists the plot and provides us with a delicious happily ever after *sigh*
I love the happy endings. I love that I can’t get away, have an nice easy read, and not have to worry about anything. Anymore more than a romance, and I find I might have to use my brain a bit more :D
by Natasha A. December 7th, 2009 at 1:20 pmI love romance, love that you know will last a lifetime. It sounds cheesy, but when there seems to be no longevity in real life, romance shows me the kind of love I’d base my faith on… I’m weird. *blush* I just want it to last forever, even with the hiccups. :D
by Penny Dune December 7th, 2009 at 1:31 pmAh, Amour……
I fell in love with romance, reading about it, trying to instill it in my life with DH, it just makes life so much worth living.
I love the soul deep connection between characters, I love the sensuality and the eroticsm that comes out of that bond.

by Armenia December 7th, 2009 at 1:53 pmI love the happy endings.
by Estella December 7th, 2009 at 2:10 pmGuys, OOOH! I love your comments! You’re just like me. Hopeless romantics and yet . . . deep down, I think we’re all looking for this amazing connection. Keeps you going when things get rough and keeps you sighing when things are A-ok.
I’m so glad to be in such good company.
by Red December 7th, 2009 at 3:39 pmI fell in love with Johanna Lindsey’s books about romance. The lush historical settings and those wondrous things that I probably shouldn’t have been reading about at age 13 or 14, but Mom had them laying around, so there you have it. It was so taboo to me in a house where sex was not spoken of.
lol
Deidre
by Deidre December 9th, 2009 at 6:34 amDeidre, hi! You know, it’s funny that I come from one such household too! And I hid all my romances away until I was fifteen, when I came out of the closet as being a romance junkie.
by Red December 9th, 2009 at 12:52 pmI absolutely love Johanna Lindsay – my first of hers was Captive Bride – I still remember it!
I started reading my grandmother’s romance novels when I was about ten-there was some racy stuff in there-lol! But I can’t remember any of the authors, unfortunately…I gave up romance for a number of years to read sci-fi and other fiction, then went back to romance about 12 years ago. I still liked the racy stuff, so I was reading a lot of Silhouette Desire, then branched out from there. Who doesn’t love love?
