Smutketeers Roll Call!
by edenbradley on Feb 2nd, 2010 leave a response

Hey there folks-you’ve probably been wondering where the heck we all are and what we’re up to…Since we’re the Smutketeers it’s usually safe to assume we’re up to no good, but, sad to say, we’ve been staying out of trouble because we’ve been working so hard. That could be boring, except, again, it’s us, and we’ve been busy writing more smut for all of you! And let’s face it, if we must work, writing smut is an awfully nice way to go…
We’ve all just finished our novellas for our upcoming Wasteland continuity series. This last week we’ve been completing our stories, polishing them up, and sending them off to our editor-very exciting! We’ve been working on this idea for almost a year, I think, so making it happen is pretty damn thrilling! I think our readers are really going to love the post-apocalyptic world we’ve created-and our hot heroes! Here’s our blurb, for those who haven’t seen it before:

THE WASTELAND SERIES
Coming from Samhain Publishing in May 2010!

In 2012, the world came to a grinding halt as radiation hit from a massive solar storm. Crops died, animals perished, cities fell, and humans became little more than beasts themselves. Under the threat of starvation, civility was reduced to mere memory. Only the strongest men survived, and physically weaker women and children wasted to nothingness.

More than a hundred years later, humanity struggles in the desert Wasteland that was left. The solar radiation rendered most women infertile, and the population dwindles more with each year that passes. Scattered up and down coasts, isolated cities eke out an existence from fishing, foraging, and hunting for what little game remains. Outside the city walls, men face the threat of pirates and raiders.

There is only one rule in the Wasteland: survive.

Crystal Jordan~~ Book One: The Wanderer
Lilli Feisty~~Book Two: The Whore
Eden Bradley~~Book Three: The Breeder
R.G. Alexander~~Book Four: The Priestess

Somehow, we’ve all ended up writing stories with multiple partners…great-and dirty-minds think alike-lol!
Meanwhile, we’re waiting with baited and panting breath to get our cover art for the Wasteland series-look for our covers to be revealed here first!-and busy writing more for Samhain and our other publishers. I’m working on my next Spice novel, R.G. is putting her next novel together for Berkley Heat, Crystal is always working on a hot new story for Kensington Aphrodisia, and Feisty is working on her next erotic romance for Grand Central Publishing.
Speaking of Feisty, her latest novel, DARE TO SURRENDER, was just released and is in bookstores and available for order on Amazon and other online outlets now! Awesome, hot, romantic story-a must have!

I love this cover! It’s suggestive without being obvious, in your face nudity-I think it’s classy yet seductive. I prefer this sort of cover to one that reveals too much-I love the subtlety of it, yet the message comes through loud and clear. One of my favorite covers is for my BDSM book The Darker Side of Pleasure. If you don’t look at it carefully, it’s easy to miss what’s going on, and I love that. What about you? Do you like classic clinch covers, a naked male torso…? What kind of cover really draws you in?
CONTEST! Let me know what sort of book covers you love, and you’ll be entered to win a copy of one of my e-books, WINTER SOLSTICE, Book One in my Celestial Seductions series! The second book in this series, SPRING EQUINOX, will be out March 5th. The winner will be announced on Thursday, so a quick little contest, just for fun. Hurry to enter-and be sure to check back to see if you’ve won!
And stay tuned for author interviews and giveaways coming up soon-we have some awesome stuff in store!

Yeay! Wasteland sounds like an exciting project – I can’t wait to get my hands on all four :) The individual titles, and the fact that you’re the Smutketeers suggests a smutty read, but the blurb is very gritty. I can’t imagine what wondrous creations you’ve come up with – but I can guess that they will be wondrous…and very smutty!

At the moment, I am in love in Moira Rogers’ Crux and Crossroads covers. Colors are so pretty, and the artists have created a fab image of torment and girl power!

I’m not much of a fan of the orginal Sookie Stackhouse covers — they put me off trying the series. It wasn’t until True Blood came out that I gave them a shot.

A cover is my first point of persuasion, and makes up for at least 60% of my decision as to whether or not I want to read it.

On my covers I like big, muscled men – tattoos a bonus. Or sexy looking couples that display a drift and sexual tension. Above all, I love the Crux type cover – feminine power and dark foreboding danger elements suggested.

More of my favorite covers…Lauren Dane’s Laird Bare and Coming Undone, and Crystal Jordan’s In the Heat of the Night books. So pretty!

As a graphic designer covers fascinate me. I prefer understated covers. A little eye candy is good but I don’t want to have to be aware of who is around to witness my literary debauchery while I am reading in public! Oh, and don’t get me started about cover illustrations not matching the body copy inside…

I even do quick critiques of covers with my book reviews. AND I just started writing a cover art review column for Night Owl Reviews (Feb 15th issue date)

I would love it i you guys shared with me the inside process for getting your cover art!

I love subtle covers like Feisty’s or those like RG’s Wicked Sexy where you don’t actually see much, but – hot! Plus, I have a weakness for men’s arms, especially when they’re wrapped around a woman, so yeah, that cover works for me

Jo-Moira’s Crux is one of my favorite Samhain covers, too! Great balance and I love the dark, mysterious tones. And tattoos on a man…oh, yes…
Miranda-I hate it, too, when the cover images don’t match the characters in the book-SO frustrating for the author when that happens! I’ve been pretty lucky there, but I know it happens all too often.
Re: the process-it differs from one publisher to the next. At Samhain we fill out a fairly extensive cover art form, and can submit links to other covers we love, which helps us to communicate with the artists. With Wasteland, we have a very specific idea that the four of us came up with together-we just sent the forms off, so we’ll see what happens…I can’t say more until we see the covers. :)
    KB-I love RG’s Wicked Sexy cover-hot!

I’m not sure what covers I love, but I HATE book covers that are plain or have a heroine running. Ugh!! The steamy embrace is cute and fun, but nothing drives me crazy.

First off, I’m going to agree about Moira Rogers Southern Arcana covers. Verra nice.

My favorite covers are ones that accurately reflect the look of the hero or heroine. If the hero is tall dark and broody, I don’t want to look at sleek blonde and pouty. Just sayin’. My most favorite covers are usually women, looking powerful and strong. Feisty’s Bound To Please was beautiful! Had that “powerful sub” thing going on.

  7. 7

I’m a fan of the manly chest book cover myself.

  8. 8

I like the hard bodies lol
    or the sexy embrace
    Or
Anything that doesnt look like an old Atari version of my characters ;)

    And I LOVE Feistys covers!

  9. 9

I like sexy covers. The best new cover I’ve seen recently is the one for Lauren Dane’s upcoming release, Inside Out.
And if it is a book about shifters, I love it when the animal of one or both the characters is depicted on the cover. Any cover that has an animal on it draws my eye immediately.
Colorful is also eye catching, as long as they don’t go overboard and use a lot of neon colors or make the scene too busy.

i cannot wait to read a braided series from the talents of the smutketeers! GO ladies!

  11. 11

Wasteland sounds like a wonderful anthology and something I am definitely adding to my tbb list.
As to covers, I prefer covers like the one that was done for Feisty’s book. Subtle covers that aren’t in your face and that I can take to work. The men tease some of the other ladies for reading what they call
“bodice rippers” so the subtle covers are my faves!

  12. 12

Beth-I can’t find Lauren’s new cover on her site or on Amazon. Do you have a link? I do love her co0ver for Insatiable-not so subtle, but inarguably HOT!
Thanks, Mima. :) We’re excited about this antho-can’t wait to see what readers think!

  13. 13

oh give me a hot man on the front :)

  14. 14

Jennifer-Most of RG’s and Crystal’s covers should make you very happy, then…*G*. Try RG’s LUX IN SHADOW-or wait until you see her first book for Berkley Heat, POSSESS ME! That guy is one of the most beautiful men ever…*sigh*
Crystal has some lovely man-candy on most of her covers, but the one that really gets me is the guy on ON THE PROWL. It might be his tattoo…
Okay-winner will be announced later today! Still time to post for another few hours!
