Her BLADES OF THE ROSE series is an awesome, sexy adventure series, four books being released back-to-back. This month was the release of WARRIOR, on September 7th (my birthday!) the first in the series, with SCOUNDREL, book two, coming up on October 5th, REBEL, out November 2nd, and STRANGER, the final book in the series, out December 7th.

Let’s hear some of Zoë’s thoughts about characters, making adventure stories sexy, and her exciting new series!

There’s a sickness in the world of writers. One of the reasons why many become writers is due to chronic cases of Icandoitbetteritis. This malady’s symptoms include reading a book and/or seeing a film and thinking, I can do it better. A story is moving along briskly, the characters are behaving appropriately, you’re feeling pretty good about where the narrative and protagonists are heading and then…it fizzles. Potential is wasted. What could have been an awesome story turned out to be…meh, and you can’t help but rewrite the story in your head, the way it should have been. Say, if a character had been a little more tough, or smarter.

Another symptom of this sad condition is the inflammation of the Showmesexytimes gland (named for Drs. Emil Showme and his colleague Dr. Lisbeth Sexytimes of the University of Hawtness in Geneva). Usually, this manifests itself when the hero and heroine of a book or film kiss, followed by a discrete pan to the fireplace, or the bedroom door closing, or some elliptical language such as “They woke up hours later.” No! They didn’t wake up hours later! They did stuff between the kiss and the waking up! What was it? What did they do?

The cure can be found by performing a rigorous treatment of writing.

In my case, I’ve always loved reading quest stories, and some of my favorite films have been action-packed adventures, full of far-away locations, danger, and roguish, sexy heroes cracking wise whilst simultaneously kicking villains’ asses. With a few notable exceptions, the heroines in these adventure tales are often fish-out-of-water types who spend an inordinate amount of time shrieking or getting themselves into trouble. Couldn’t it be possible to have a heroine just as capable, just as smart as the hero? And couldn’t this roguish, sexy hero and capable, smart heroine have themselves some hot, hot lovin’?

Not only do I have a case of Icandobetteritis, I’m also afflicted with an enlarged Showmesexytimes gland, which means that, when it came time to write my BLADES OF THE ROSE series, I could answer both questions in the affirmative. Intelligent, skilled heroines? Yes! On-camera lovin’? Yes! Finally, I could have a tale of high adventure the way I’ve always wanted.

High, sexy stilettos, the harder to walk in the better…these are my Wicked Bad moments-other than the ones that happen in my bedroom, but I’m talking about the other stuff…*G* I’ve been known to go into the shoe store looking for a pair of slippers or some new sneakers and walking out with two pairs of wedge sandals, high-heeled boots, or my most-beloved stilettos.

We’ve all been busy writing, writing, writing like mad, so it’s taken a while to get the pics chosen, sized and uploaded.
