A Little Harmless Lie
AMAZON B AND N MBAM BOB MOBI
Falling for her might be easy, seducing her may be damned hard, but keeping her alive might just be deadly.
Coming from nothing, Micah Ross now has more than he knows what to do with. His Hawai’i BDSM club is flourishing, and he has his pick of women. Except one. Dee Sumners is cute, sexy, feisty…and, since she’s on his payroll, off-limits. Plus, she insists she isn’t into the life. Until one heated kiss hints that his head bartender secretly hungers to be his sub.
Life on the run doesn’t allow Dee to indulge in long-term relationships. Still, Micah manages to work his way through her tough armor and under her skin. Yet even as she succumbs to his skilled seduction, her survival instinct forms a plan to leave the island she has grown to love—and the man she’s in danger of loving.
When Dee disappears, Micah’s anger turns to fear when he realizes she didn’t leave willingly. Calling on his skills as a former bounty hunter, he tracks her to the mainland only to discover she is entangled in a web of lies and deceit that not only threatens their love, but her life.
Warning: The book contains more Hawaiian settings, a Native American Dom who always thinks he’s right, a woman on the run, sexy kisses, murderous relatives, a trip to Sin City, and a seduction that is sweet and hot and everything in between. Ice water and a towel are recommended while reading.
EXCERPT
She smiled. “Odd that you seem to know some of my favorite foods.”
He said nothing.
“So, been spying on me?”
He laughed as he stood and took both their plates. “No. Your friend Keisha was happy to help in my date plans.”
She could feel a flush of heat fill her face. “Trying to win the pool.”
“What?”
“Nothing.” She watched him as he cut a generous portion of the cheesecake. He returned to the table and slid into the chair beside her with one plate and a seductive smile. She didn’t know which tempted her more, the man or the cake.
“You’re not going to have any?” she asked.
He nodded. “We’ll share.” He cut off a piece.
And then his gaze followed the fork as he moved it to her lips. He didn’t mean to feed her, did he?
“Open up.”
Well, crap. Fear and arousal twisted through her. She didn’t want this. It was almost too…intimate. This was all about proving she wasn’t for him, but no matter what, he kept slinking past her defenses.
She shook her head.
“You want some, you better open up.”
She frowned as butterflies fluttered in her tummy.
“I told you, some things are better when someone does them for you.”
The way his voice rolled over those words, she knew the meaning behind them. She would have to be an idiot not to understand. She wanted to refuse. Being fed by a man was…a little bit too much for her to take. He slid the fork along her bottom lip. The scent of the graham cracker crust and the sweetness of the cake filled her head. She raised her gaze to his. His attention was on her mouth.
“Open up, baby. You won’t regret it.”
Yearning for the cake, for the man in front of her, had her head spinning. Never in all her twenty-seven years had she wanted someone so much. He hadn’t really tried to seduce her, and she was ready to jump up on the table and offer her body to him. But she kept all this inside, locked away, because it was better that he never know what was going on in her head. A man like Micah Ross might be good, but he definitely would use it against her to get her into bed.
“Dee.”
Her name snapped out. Not loudly, not enough to scare her. But enough to let her know that he was not happy with her. She should take exception to his tone, the way it bit out from between his teeth. Instead, she found herself wanting to please him as her nipples hardened. She opened her mouth and he slipped the dreamy dessert between her lips. The sweetness exploded over her tongue. God, it had been a long time since she’d had good cheesecake. She could pay for the good stuff. She had the money to spend on air-shipped cheesecake. But she knew she would eat the whole damn cake by herself. She opened her eyes to find Micah watching her, his face flush, his gaze intent on her mouth. The air between them thickened. Everything in her tightened, her hormones dancing.
She swallowed the bite. Before she could say anything, he had another bite for her. He held it in front of her mouth.
“Aren’t you going to have any?”
He shook his head, said nothing. She got the feeling he was holding on to an invisible thread of control. From watching her eat cheesecake?
She wanted to refuse him, wanted to tell him one bite was enough. But…she couldn’t. As she opened her mouth, she gave in to the delightful treat. Damn, the airiness was just like New York, just the right amount of sugar, the crust substantial, but not overwhelming the cake itself.
She had barely swallowed the second bite when he had another at her mouth. She took it this time without hesitation, closing her eyes and humming. The fork clattered on the plate. It was the only warning she got. She opened her eyes to find Micah reaching for her, pulling her out of her chair and onto his lap.
He crashed his mouth down onto hers, his tongue sweeping in and taking immediate possession. Like every time he kissed her, it set off an explosion within her. She didn’t resist, couldn’t. As her head spun, she slipped her hands through the silky strands of his hair, and tried to move closer. Her breasts ached, her nipples painfully hard. She turned in his lap to press her chest against his, trying her best to gain some relief.
He groaned and tightened his hold. The sound of it came from deep within him as if he were in pain. It touched something in her, had her heart beating so hard she was amazed she didn’t pass out.
She slipped her tongue against his and his hands convulsed on her waist. Damn this felt good, right. Nothing had ever felt this right before. In all her times with men, before and after the incident, she had held herself back, made sure she didn’t lose her head. But this time, this one time, she didn’t want to stop. She wanted it to keep going—needed to feel his body on hers, in hers. She shifted in his lap and felt his erection. It should be a sign to run, to not get in deep with this man. But she wanted him. Wanted everything he could offer her, take from her. Nothing in her life had ever been so important. She wanted him. Now.

And she doesn’t expect them to insist that she stay at the family’s condos.
Mal and Jack have shared women before and have thought about getting that one special woman for the two of them. Both of them are surprised that she turns out to be an uptight, corporate go-getter. But the three of them cannot ignore their attraction, and a night out in Honolulu turns into a night in bed for all of them.
But when Sophia’s ex-lover and boss arrives unexpectedly, will she be able to walk away from her dreams of climbing the corporate ladder, or will she lose Mal and Jack?

by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:10 pmTina,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:11 pmYou are the sweetest! Thank you so much. And yes, I have missed you. You are one of my favorite stalkers.
Jean,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:12 pmThanks so much!
Awww, Kitty, thank you so much. I have been very blessed with very supportive readers. Thank you so much for pimping me out:)
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:13 pmSandie,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:16 pmYOu all are making me blush. But, I did worry about this book. I had never written a modern virgin but she had her reasons. And it was soooo much fun torturing Micah with that fact, lol.
Val!
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:17 pmHow is Germany treating you? I particularly miss it this time of year. I AM making a trip over there in the next couple of years. We will have to hook up:)
Thanks so much, Amy!
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:17 pmCrystal,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:18 pmThanks! I hope you enjoy them.
Gigi,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:19 pmOh, I hope you enjoy it. Make sure to drop me a line to let me know:)
Dawn,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:20 pmLOL between her and Tina, I probably need to. They have been very kind in their pimping.
Elaine,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:21 pmthanks so much! As I said, I have been very lucky with my covers, especially this year. I am particularly lucky with Scott Carpenter who does all my Samhain covers. He has done more covers for me than anyone else. We’ve been working together since 2004 and he keeps getting better.
Bobbie,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:22 pmLOL, I know what you mean. I have been checking in every day and loving the lyrics RG comes up with. They are fantastic.
Chrissie,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:24 pmThanks so much! I hope you enjoy them. If you haven’t read Conquering India, you might want to grab that one before you read Delilah’s Downfall. It is the first of the Texas Temptations, although, you do not need to read it to know what is going on:)
Jennifer,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:25 pmThe funny thing is I am the opposite. I like cold Christmas weather. But, then, I did tell hubby I would rather be in Hawaii for Christmas than somewhere it is just icky looking. Snow, I can handle:) We spent three years in Hawaii, so I had three of them, and I have to say, it is nice to go to the beach and call our family in Texas to tell them we were at the beach, lol.
Zina,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:27 pmBeen in that situation before. I am happy to say we have THREE more Christmases as active duty military. Then, we retire and Les becomes Mr Mom and my PROMO BIATCH. I am looking forward to that, lol.
Stay warm!
Fedora,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:29 pmHEY HUN, how is it going? We are actually planning a “research” trip there in April. The youngest was born there but we left when she was only 2. Plus, I am doing a video tour of places I mention in the Harmless books, and these:)
Tara,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:30 pmYAY, I am so glad you are liking them! I hope you continue to do so.
Jane,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:30 pmThanks so much!
Lisa,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:31 pmIt is always gorgeous over there, but this time of year through March was my favorite time of year there. It is nice to escape even if only for a few hours:)
Pam,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:32 pmThanks for stopping by! I am glad you enjoyed the other books.
Amy,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:33 pmAfter I wrote that scene, I craved one until I picked one up. Hubby was wondering why I had to have cheesecake all the sudden, lol
I lived in Hawaii for 2 years and much prefer a beach Christmas to a snow one. Still have my Mele Kalikimaka ornament from when I lived there.
gigi
by gigi December 18th, 2010 at 7:34 pmGigi,
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:37 pmOh, we have a couple. I have a Santa golfing in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts, lol. We were on Oahu, is that where you lived? There are things I loved about it, but I am NOT a bug person. Really. Hate BUGS.
I was on Oahu for one year and then on the Big Island for another (Kona side). Yeah did not like the bugs, but got used to the geckos in the house and we actually had wild turkeys running through our backyard everyday on the Big Island
by gigi December 18th, 2010 at 7:43 pmgigi
I think I would have liked the Big Island a lot more. We went there and I loved every minute of it. Love that black sand beach. More space too. I get a little twitchy without space. Geckos, they eat bugs, they are our friends, lol
by Melissa December 18th, 2010 at 7:52 pmOahu is too crowded, the traffic is worse than NYC. On the big Island we could at least afford to rent a whole house instead of a house spilt 3-ways like on Oahu.
by gigi December 18th, 2010 at 7:59 pmWow you guys rocked these 12 days out I just went on my book store & more to pick up a book and realized that the top 10 r all from authors featured n ur 12 days
by Dawn December 19th, 2010 at 7:00 amLooking forward to ccelebrating the holidays with all these wonderful books to explore.
