Fallen Now Available + A Contest!
by Karen Erickson on Mar 29th, 2011 33 Comments »

I’m both excited and nervous. Fallen is out today – my first book published with Loose Id. My first paranormal fantasy book published, too. And that’s the part that makes me nervous. Yeah, I’ve written a few, dabbled in vamps and shifters and ghosts, oh my, but I call myself a “paranormal light” sort of writer. (I must thank my dearest friend Shelli Stevens for coming up with that one). So I’m stretching my wings with this one (ha ha bad pun. Wings, fallen angel hero…).

I got the idea for this book almost two years ago and started it. Then immediately shoved it out of the way to work on something else. Then something else…then something else…until finally I realized hey, I should work on this sucker. Finish it and see where it takes me. And so I finished it, submitted it to my editor at Loose Id and it sold.

And now I’m nervous as hell that people will think it sucks. There. I said it. Us writers, we ride a roller coaster of highs and lows every day. Will readers like it? Will this book live up to the expectations set by the cover? Because have you seen this cover?

Jordan Sumner is ready to embrace her new life. After nearly dying at the hands of her mother, moving to a new town offers new possibilities. First on her agenda? Get a tattoo. She just doesn’t expect the tattoo artist to be so incredibly sexy or for her to recognize him as the guardian angel who saved her life years ago.

Gabriel Wilder knows the minute he sees Jordan she’s different from any other woman he’s ever met. A fallen angel with no memory of his past, he senses Jordan is linked to him. He’s drawn to her sexually–in every sort of way. They’re meant for each other and no matter how much he fights it, he knows it’s a waste of his time.

An unknown evil is sent from Jordan’s past and is ready to sink its claws into her. Gabe must fight to save what he considers his–Jordan. But is he strong enough to fend off the demon who wants Jordan as his sacrifice, now that he’s fallen…fallen for her?

It’s gorgeous – and designed by Anne Cain (she’s awesome!). Okay, and I sound like a whiner so I’m going to shut up now. Buy Fallen! I think you’ll love it! I certainly enjoyed creating the cast of characters – Gabe is just such a dark, growly sort of hero. And Jordan is sweet and shy but strong when she needs to be. She’s endured a lot, that girl. She deserves her happily ever after…

(You can read an excerpt here)

I’m giving away a copy of Fallen to one lucky commenter. And I’ll give away a bunch of swag (pens, bookmarks, romance trading cards, etc.) to another commenter – so there are TWO winners! Leave a comment below answering this question: Do you like a dark hero? Why?

Contest ends Friday, April 1st. Winner will be announced Saturday here on the blog. Good luck!

Breaking in Shelli Stevens!
by Crystal Jordan on Mar 26th, 2011 30 Comments »

Crystal: Woohoo, the Smutketeers good friend Shelli Stevens just busted into the New York Times bestseller list for her Samhain ebook! In fact the whole series has sold like hotcakes for her, so we dragged her over to tell us all about it. And, of course, there’s some goodies in it for you!

Shelli: Thanks to the Smutketeers for letting me hang out today!

Well, I’m still doing backstrokes through cloud nine, because my book Flash Point hit #32 on the New York Times extended ebook list! It’s doubly exciting because I’m the 2nd author to hit the NYT with an ebook from Samhain Publishing!

I couldn’t be more thrilled, because I absolutely love this series. Flash Point in the third novella in the Holding out for a Hero series. It follows three brothers—all who live in a small town named after their namesake—their heroic careers, and their journey in finding love. And I named each book to have a double entendre with the hero’s career and a saucy/sexy term. Book 1: Going Down, the hero is a Sheriff. Book 2: Command and Control, the hero is an army guy. Book 3: Flash Point, the hero is a
firefighter.

So all three books are out, and the series just seemed to just take off! The print book with all three stories will come out in about a year (in case you’re not an ebook fan!). And, because I had so many requests, I’m going to write Ryan a short story (a cousin you meet in the series) and put it up on Amazon and other ebook retailers for .99 (look for that in the next month!) Hint: he’s a bad boy in the Coast Guard.

I’m in the mood to give away a book, so if you’d like a chance to win an ebook from my list, leave a comment and we’ll draw a name.

Thanks!

Shelli

Shifting the Smut with Loribelle Hunt!

I read all kinds of books, but nothing quite catches my fascination like a good, sexy shifter. What is it about a man who can become an animal that hooks us so much? The wildness, innate sensuality, dominance, and sometimes fury these characters are often infused with are just impossible to refuse. So it should come as no surprise that I love to write them.

My latest release, Renegade Passions, features exactly the kind of hero I love. Nico Leonidas is sexy, commanding, and oh so controlled. Until it comes to the woman that challenges him in ways he never expected. There is nothing more satisfying than watching a strong man bend.

Renegade Passions is the fourth installment in the Forbidden Passions series that I co-wrote with the fantabulous Crystal Jordan. To celebrate its release I’m giving away a copy of my second book in the series, Passions Recalled, to one lucky commenter. Tell us if you love shifters too (and why)!

Eden’s THE TURNING KISS is Out!
by edenbradley on Mar 15th, 2011 22 Comments »

THE TURNING KISS, the next book in my hot and sexy Midnight Playground vampire series is finally here!

It started in Book One, THE SEEKING KISS, where I introduced Ilana, Nissa’s best friend. Ilana is a bit cool, a bit too controlled, so she was the perfect candidate for her own story. I love a challenge-and so do my vampires-and my burly Scotsman, Calam, who made his debut in Book Two, BLOODSONG.

My readers first witnessed Calam’s dungeon play with my kinky French vampire, Aleron, so we already know a little sumthin’ about him. *G* The vampires at the Midnight Playground love him for his incredible strength and stamina, and Ilana will, too-Ilana and the pair of sultry, dark vampires who appear in THE TURNING KISS. Konstantine and Luka are a bonded pair, recently arrived in London from the Moscow club. The mysteriously sexy Konstantine has a dangerous side he can barely control. The gentler Luka has a certain sweetness about him, despite his tendency to drink human blood and his preference for some rough BDSM play. Ilana and Calam find them both impossible to resist, and that combination of the dark and dangerous, the beautiful and sweet, only make these vampires more appealing. Add in my favorite vampire, the ancient Ever, and this will be an erotic adventure neither will ever forget.
Let’s take a look:

They have nothing to lose…except the one gift they never expected to find.

Midnight Playground, Book 3

Ilana escaped a life of sex slavery, using her extraordinary beauty to survive among the few remaining wealthy humans in London. But she has higher aspirations. For two years she has haunted the BDSM dungeons of the Midnight Playground, hungering for The Turning Kiss—that deep drink that will make her one of them. An immortal vampire.

Turned out onto the streets of Edinburgh as a child, Calam’s tortured path led him to a job at the club, where he also engages in exotic and dangerous sex play with its clientele. Craving, like Ilana, the eternal escape of the Turning Kiss.

Ilana is undeniably drawn to the beautiful Scotsman, but she has no time to waste; the club takes no one over thirty. When a sinfully compelling vampire pair brings them together for an unusual foursome, she and Calam are shocked to discover it isn’t the vampires they crave, it’s the tenderness and emotion they feel for each other.

After years of seeking to feel something, anything, other than the pain of the past, the ultimate gift is within Ilana’s reach. Yet the cost—leaving her heart behind with a mortal—could be more than she can bear.

EXCERPT: Warning! X-Rated!

“Are you ready for more?” Luka asked, tilting her chin in his hand. Heat rushed through her system at his touch. The intensity of his preternatural gaze as he looked into her eyes.

“Oh, yes. I’m ready,” she told him. It was the truth. She was burning with a hard, driving lust once more.

Luka smiled. The doors to the room opened. And Konstantine walked in, along with the most ancient vampire she had ever seen.

Ever.

So exquisite, everything else in the room—everyone—momentarily faded from view. He was even taller than Konstantine, and a stark contrast to the Russian vampire’s hard, dark looks. Ever was pale, as pale as white marble, his skin gleaming in a way she’d never seen before. His hair was just as pale, long and tied back from his face. And his face…his features were even prettier than Luka’s. Androgynous. So lovely it was difficult to look at him, to take it all in. His eyes were absolutely black, so dark they were like two pieces of glittering jet. Impossible to read. Mysterious. She had no idea if he’d been born with eyes so dark, or if it had more to do with his ancient nature.

She felt overwhelmed simply looking at him. In awe. Of his age, which seemed to emanate from his long, lean body. In awe of the force of his presence. And the pain so clearly etched on his features.
What must it be like to experience centuries, to carry those experiences with you?

But just as clearly as the awe was the heat building in her body as Ever and Konstantine strode across the room. The heat she felt from Calam next to her. Even the desire building in Luka’s vampiric body.

Konstantine was smiling at them, his fangs peeking at the edges of his lush mouth. There were no words, just Konstantine reaching for Luka, tearing his clothes from his body. The small ripping sound as fabric and leather gave way. Then Konstantine pushed Luka back on the bed, and in moments his own clothes were gone. His body was all hard, masculine lines, taut muscle, a sprinkling of dark hair on his chest. His nipples were nearly bronze. Erect. She wanted to touch them. To take them into her mouth. To watch Luka do it himself.

But it was Ever who came up behind Konstantine, his pale hands sliding around the darker vampire’s body. He pinched Konstantine’s nipples in his fingers, and Konstantine shivered, his eyes fluttering closed. Ilana watched as Ever pinched again, twisting the swollen flesh. She watched as Konstantine’s enormous cock twitched. And her body went soft and hot all over. Aching with the need to be touched. Fucked. For them to drink from her. To do as they wanted with her.

And in the back of her mind was that now-constant awareness of Calam.

Konstantine’s eyes opened, and he leaned over Luka, reaching for Ilana. He filled his palms with her breasts, and she arched into him.

“So beautiful, our ice princess,” he murmured, thumbing her nipples, then giving them a sharp pinch.

“Oh…”

“Yes, your sighs are so pretty,” Konstantine said. “Shall we hear some more?”

His hand slipped down over her stomach, his fingers driving into her soaking pussy, and her body clenched in response.

“Ah, yes, spectacular,” Konstantine said. “But what might happen should we all have our hands on you at once? Our mouths. Our cocks. Will it take all of us to melt you?”

She shivered, desire screaming in her veins.

Yes. Yes. Yes…

Konstantine leaned farther, over Luka, and Luka took his partner’s cock in his mouth and began to suck him hard. Konstantine drove his fingers deeper into Ilana’s body. And next to her, Calam pressed against her side, his mouth going to her nipple, sucking, tugging, biting just hard enough. And finally Ever bent over her and kissed her.

Sensation was like the brilliance of the sun shining through the windows, dazzling her. Ever’s mouth was a stunning contradiction of hard and soft. He tasted of honey and the weight of the centuries. He tasted of stone and moss and some flavor that was more a high-pitched sound just out of her reach than it was something she could taste.

She was writhing, on the edge instantly. Calam’s mouth was so hot on her breast, his hand kneading the full flesh. Konstantine’s thrusting fingers, driving pleasure deeper, deeper. And finally, Luka reached under her somehow and pushed into her ass with his fingers, soaked in the juices from her wet and aching sex.

Ever’s tongue twined with hers, the sweetness almost more than she could bear. That and the pleasure assaulting her from everywhere. Every orifice. Every angle. She forced herself to keep her eyes open, to watch Luka swallowing Konstantine’s cock, Ever’s hand still torturing Konstantine’s nipple.

Calam was pressing into her side, his hips working, his cock rubbing against her. She needed to feel him inside her. To feel some cock in her body.

Please…

Ever pulled his mouth from hers, laughing, a strangely hollow sound. “Then you shall have it,” he said, his voice deep. Ancient.

Another long, undulating shiver of pure pleasure at his words. Then everything shifted, so quickly she couldn’t keep up. Calam was kneeling between her thighs, his silver gaze boring into hers. He rose over her, slipped one arm around her body and pulled her upright, her breasts pressing against the taut planes of his chest. She swore she could feel his heart beating against hers. Just as erratic. Just as wild. She held on to his broad shoulders, loving the bulge of muscle beneath her hands. Her legs were draped over his thighs, strong and solid beneath her. Ever was behind her, his hands between their bodies. He pumped Calam’s cock a few times, then guided him to her sex. Calam arched, thrusting his cock inside her.

“Ah…”

Pleasure was sharp as a blade, stabbing into her body. And Calam’s gaze on hers still. His mouth was loose, his plush lips red. She tilted her chin and kissed him.

His mouth was sweet with the tea they’d drunk together, which seemed a thousand years ago, as his tongue plunged into her mouth, his cock drove into her body. And behind her was the odd heat and coolness that was ancient vampire skin and muscle. Ever smoothed his hands over her back, her ass. And as Calam fucked her, Ever began to spank her.

One hard slap on her ass, then another. Pain was simply another layer of pleasure. Her hips arched into Calam, wanting to take his cock deeper. Then she surged back into Ever’s touch, needing the pain with her pleasure.

Calam was kissing her harder. Fucking her harder. He pulled back, staring into her eyes. And as she watched, his features went lax with pleasure. He came into her, his cock pulsing. Watching him come was a beautiful thing, arousing, purely erotic. Something in her chest surged.

Calam.

Her body clenched hard around his still-rigid cock. And as Ever increased the tempo of his spanking, she came. Pleasure shafted deep. Pierced her. Until she was calling out, her nails biting into Calam’s shoulders, drawing blood.

She smelled it almost as soon as the vampires did, sharp and metallic. Konstantine was on Calam, tearing him from her grasp, throwing him to the floor on his hands and knees. He kicked Calam’s thighs apart and plowed into him.

Konstantine growled. Calam groaned. And the old vampire began to fuck him. Hard, punishing strokes while Luka knelt before them, stroking his own cock with his hand, his lean hips arching into his fist.

Ever pulled her into his lap, and she felt the length of his cock beneath her.

“Watch, my divine girl. Watch them as you love to do. Watch them while I fuck you now.”

The Fairy Ball at RT!
by edenbradley on Mar 11th, 2011 6 Comments »

Hey there Smutkedettes-R.G, Karen and I will be at this year’s RT Booklover’s Convention in LA, and we hope to see you all there! There are book signings, panels and workshops, tons of giveaways-and of course, the costume parties! This year R.G. and I will be on the Faery Court, hanging out on stage and judging the costume contest before our duties are over and we can spend the rest of the evening shakin’ it on the dance floor. Here’s some info about this awesome event!

It’s a night of magic, laughter and romance – a night when all things seem possible as our feet take us over the threshold of reality and into a world of fantasy, wonder and Faeries! It’s the annual RT Booklovers Convention event that draws almost every attendee…The Faery Ball.

Since its inception six years ago, the author sponsors have changed but the goals remain the same…to offer guests a chance to dine and dance the night away in a variety of settings, from long ago times, to an underwater realm, to this year’s theme – a lushly decadent Venetian Masquerade Ball.

Much goes on behind the scenes in the way of planning and creating the event so that when the final moment arrives, guests find themselves transported – this year they’ll walk into a scene reminiscent of Venetian splendor and they’ll be dining in an atmosphere redolent with excitement and masked intrigue.

There is always a raffle at the Faery Ball – a charity offering whose proceeds go to benefit a local literacy group. The Fae sponsors select small sparkling items of “Faery Bling” and lucky winners take home a little glittering memento of a magical night. This year, the Fae will be donating a check to the Los Angeles Neighborhood Libraries.

Along with the raffle, there’s a costume contest – extremely popular and wonderfully intriguing. It brings out the most amazing creativity and photos capture the extraordinary talents of so many attendees when it comes to creating costumes!

For 2011, the sponsors include authors and new friends, including Circle of Seven productions and two “Faery Godmothers” – sponsors who are not writers themselves, and thus are free to promote our Literacy charity project.

Although the 2011 Ball has yet to happen, our thoughts are already turning toward 2012 and how the Faery Ball will continue to rock the world – this time in the mid-West! We hope to see you in Los Angeles this April and also next year in the windy city–CHICAGO!

Drea Beacraft Pops Her Smutketeers Cherry!
by edenbradley on Mar 9th, 2011 29 Comments »

Eden/Eve: Drea Beacraft, as many of you may already know, is not only one of our most loyal Smutkedettes, but she’s also a brand *spanking* new author! Let’s sit down for a wild initiation rite…er…a cozy chat with this new author!

Drea: First off I wanna say thank you the Smutketeers for having me on this blog. I can’t tell you how much I squeed when I was asked.

Okay before I just go spewing about my book I thought it was only proper to introduce myself, my momma did teach me some manners ;0). My name is Drea Becraft and I’m a mother/wife/newbie author. I have three little girls ages 7, 4, and 2 with my high school sweetheart/husband, all drive me madly insane at any given moment but I love them dearly. I live in a little hick town in Northwestern Ohio, where I am begging spring to come early.

As I stated above I am a newbie author, this being my first book “officially” published. I did have a free read come out for Christmas. Since LIVE FOR THE TODAYS has come out I have been overwhelmed by the great reviews that it’s been getting. I can’t tell you how much it does me good to hear them, and makes me only want to write more, that is if I ever get the time back to do so ;0).

Now the premise of this story came from two different places, first a Yahoo loop party that thought a book made entirely of emails would be fun, and second, a real life experience. While it wasn’t a good life experience I wanted to connect with my audience and what better way then something we all know so well-cancer. I watched as my friend lost her aunt, who was practically her mother, and it just about killed me to see her in pain. While it’s sad to kill a character off in a book I felt it necessary in this one.

Blurb:
Vengeance is only a mouse click away, but what happens when you fall for the one you’re supposed to hate? Diane Miles lets very few people into her life, and the ones she calls family she never lets go of. But what is she to do when her best friend is dying and her whole world as she knows it is about to be torn apart?

Chase Griffin is in shock when a woman accuses him of treating one of his employees wrongfully. When she takes over his system making it impossible to work, he doesn’t know whether to strangle her or spank her till she begs for mercy. When he discovers who his local vigilante is, strangling is the last thing on his mind as she becomes his rock during the last days of his sister’s life.

Subject: Oops, did I do that????

It’s been a month, Ace, and you have yet to find and fire the one who wronged my friend. I have given you more than ample time and now it’s time for you to pay.
You are up against one hell of a computer chick. And Ace, I am holding your system ransom until you meet the demands.
I hope you don’t have important meetings you need to be in this week, because I just canceled them.
Oh isn’t it wonderful how the world translates in 101011, LOL.

NO YOU CAN’T,
Your Local Vigilante

Oh, how good it felt finally sending that message. After a long night of hacking into the arrogant asshole’s computer system, she finally had the worm in place, and his system stalled. Sometimes, it paid to be one hell of a computer wiz and even one better, having software irreversible by anyone but herself.
Sure, it would be a huge inconvenience for both Mr. Griffin and maybe his secretary, but that’s as far as her vigilance went. Diane only wanted to make one man pay, so no need to hack the entire ARC main frame. Other employees should not pay for the failure of their boss, nor should the customers who pay for services needed.

Chuckling lightly she added one of the many pictures she had of a super muscled and super shiny naked man. The man was seriously too prude for his own good so why not add a little man candy in the mix? Plus it made her happy to imagine the look on his face as a man in all his glory playing with himself popped up every time he clicked the mouse.

Totally engrossed in what she was doing, Diane didn’t notice Tina standing in the doorway. Dressed in a black skirt with a yellow blouse, she had her hair pulled in a bun. If you didn’t know any better, you would think she was your ordinary woman, but Diane did know better.

“What are you looking at?” Crossing the room, Tina looked over her shoulder at the naked man holding himself while leaning his head under the spray of his seemingly enjoyable shower. “Nice, where can I get one of those?”

“1-800-HOT-DICK,” bringing a chuckle from them both.

“You’ve been at it all night again, haven’t you?” Tina said, crossing her arms across her chest and glaring.

“Always treating me like a kid. Yeah Mommy, I spent all night on the computer. But I swear, once I hit the pillows, I’ll sleep all afternoon.” With a half smile, Diane pushed away from the desk and headed toward her friend.

“You better, I swear I have no idea how you go on as little sleep as you do. I would have migraines out the ass if I tried to pull that stunt.”

“Luck of the genes, I guess.” Diane shrugged then hugged her friend lightly. Releasing her, she stepped back a couple of steps to continue their conversation. “When are you going to give your resignation?”

“I will in a couple of weeks. We have some pretty big hitters coming in and I want to get them settled before I up and leave. It’s the least I can do before I leave them bereft an acquisitions agent.”

“And a damn good one at that.”

“Amen, sister.”

“You are too kind to that man after the way he treated you.”

“Just because someone else got the job as agent doesn’t mean he’s not a good boss, Diane. I sure don’t hold a grudge over what happened. And I have no clue why you would either.”

“I just hate to see anyone hurt the ones I love.”

“Oh, honey, I love you too but just let it go. It’s so not worth the trouble or worry.”

“I can’t help but worry about you, T. You’re my family.”

“You’re my best friend, and I would be so lost without you.”

“I know. I am pretty fabulous.” Blowing on her nails, then on her shirt, she winked at her friend.

Chase was pissed. Not only could he not get into any of his files, but his email didn’t work unless sending to only one recipient. The tech guys from his IT department could do nothing to restore it but assured him that only his files were hostage, both were a relief and an annoyance. Obviously, he was the only target of this vigilante, and she was doing a really good job.

Even more pissed now than when first discovering the problem hours ago, Chase shot off an email to his nemesis, satisfied in the knowledge that while he enjoyed a great lunch with his sister and best friend she would be squirming.

Listen, I don’t know who the fuck you are, or how the fuck you got into my system, but I want it RESTORED NOW. You can’t just mess with someone’s livelihood. You mess with me and you mess with the company. Not only are you screwing over your friend but also the people that work for my company.
I have no idea what started this, but if you don’t restore it, I will find you and have my lawyers so far up your ass you won’t know where you end and they begin.
