Hey there Smutkedettes-R.G, Karen and I will be at this year’s RT Booklover’s Convention in LA, and we hope to see you all there! There are book signings, panels and workshops, tons of giveaways-and of course, the costume parties! This year R.G. and I will be on the Faery Court, hanging out on stage and judging the costume contest before our duties are over and we can spend the rest of the evening shakin’ it on the dance floor. Here’s some info about this awesome event!

It’s a night of magic, laughter and romance – a night when all things seem possible as our feet take us over the threshold of reality and into a world of fantasy, wonder and Faeries! It’s the annual RT Booklovers Convention event that draws almost every attendee…The Faery Ball.
Since its inception six years ago, the author sponsors have changed but the goals remain the same…to offer guests a chance to dine and dance the night away in a variety of settings, from long ago times, to an underwater realm, to this year’s theme – a lushly decadent Venetian Masquerade Ball.
Much goes on behind the scenes in the way of planning and creating the event so that when the final moment arrives, guests find themselves transported – this year they’ll walk into a scene reminiscent of Venetian splendor and they’ll be dining in an atmosphere redolent with excitement and masked intrigue.
There is always a raffle at the Faery Ball – a charity offering whose proceeds go to benefit a local literacy group. The Fae sponsors select small sparkling items of “Faery Bling” and lucky winners take home a little glittering memento of a magical night. This year, the Fae will be donating a check to the Los Angeles Neighborhood Libraries.
Along with the raffle, there’s a costume contest – extremely popular and wonderfully intriguing. It brings out the most amazing creativity and photos capture the extraordinary talents of so many attendees when it comes to creating costumes!
For 2011, the sponsors include authors and new friends, including Circle of Seven productions and two “Faery Godmothers” – sponsors who are not writers themselves, and thus are free to promote our Literacy charity project.
Although the 2011 Ball has yet to happen, our thoughts are already turning toward 2012 and how the Faery Ball will continue to rock the world – this time in the mid-West! We hope to see you in Los Angeles this April and also next year in the windy city–CHICAGO!
Join the 2011 Faery Court for an evening filled with old-world splendor!

Wow, that sounds like so much fun. I wish I could go, but unfortunately I can’t this year.

by Marcy Fritz March 11th, 2011 at 7:30 pmHowever, Chicago next year sounds like a definite possibility…hmmmm
I can’t wait!! I did a very simple costume so I know I will not win the contest lol. But maybe some of my fellow Smutkedettes will get it :)

by Eden Bradley March 13th, 2011 at 9:54 pmI will be losing my RT virginity as well. I have an outfit for the ball but it isn’t really a costume. I do have a mask though. The funny thing is is that I went to Venice in October. RT 2012 will be here in Chicago which will be so much easier than flying to LA.
by StacieDM March 14th, 2011 at 10:37 amYay-another RT virgin!
by Eden Bradley March 14th, 2011 at 10:45 amBTW-we’ll do a ‘what to bring/not miss/be prepared for’ sorta discussion on the Smutketeers yahoo group, so be sure to join if you’re not already there!
