Please give a hearty and most smutty welcome back to the one. The only…Melissa Schroeder! She has a special treat for you today – an interview with the hero from her new book (coming out June 7th!), A Little Harmless Addiction. Take it away, Mel!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey, everyone! I am so excited to be back here at the SMUTKETEERS. They have been so sweet to allow me to return for a visit to talk about my Harmless series. Thanks again for having me.
Luckily, I had time in my schedule during my recent family trip to Hawaii to meet with Kai Aiona, my hero in A LITTLE HARMLESS ADDICTION. He took the day off to meet me at Cynthia’s for a cup of Kona and some of Jocelyn’s wonderful mallasadas. The bakery is located in Waikiki. We grabbed a table outside to enjoy the cool Hawaiian morning and sweet sea air.
Kai is a pretty man, but not too pretty. He owns his own business taking tourists and fisherman out to enjoy the waters around Oahu. I am not always into men with lots of tats, but on Kai, they somehow fit. It is probably because most of the ink looks Hawaiian in origin. Of Hawaiian and Chinese descent, he has green eyes that stand out against his bronzed skin. I’ve heard he’s got some interesting piercings, but since he is fully clothed (Hawaiian-style in a sleeveless t-shirt, board shorts, and slippahs-flip flops to you mainlanders) I can’t see them. (I am trying not to pout here.) He keeps his hair short probably because of the work he does.
MEL: I want to thank you for joining me for a few questions. Readers are really interested in getting to know more about you.
KAI: No worries, sistah. I have no problem spending time with a beautiful woman.
MEL: Listen, you can flirt with other women, but don’t be flashing that smile at me. Your woman might be around somewhere.
KAI: chuckles Jocelyn does keep me on a short leash.
MEL: You sound very satisfied.
KAI: nods Never thought I would settle down early. In fact, I wasn’t sure if I was going to find the one. And I definitely wasn’t looking when I met Jocelyn.
MEL: But, you did. Love at first sight?
KAI: I don’t believe in it. But, I was definitely attracted when I saw her. If you can imagine Halle Berry only hotter, you have my Jocelyn.
MEL: So, you were attracted right off the bat. What is the thing that kept your interest?
KAI: First of all, have you seen her? It wouldn’t take much to keep a man attracted to her.
MEL: I study him for a second. You might let people think you are superficial, but I know May, so I know you can’t be that way. So, give over. What is the one thing that made you fall for Jocelyn?
KAI: He smiles, but this time there is no flirtation. It’s like someone has turned on a light on inside him. And of course, it makes him more attractive. She’s a survivor, really tough. Beyond those good looks, her ability to make the most amazing cookies, she’s got this inner core of good. She is nonjudgmental. Below that there is that toughness. She could have easily played the victim or let what happened to her keep her down. Instead, she fought through it, and that makes her Jocelyn.
MEL: So, what is for you two in the future? Marriage, kids?
KAI: Well, definitely something like that. We are still trying to get adjusted to living together. Which can be great because I can eat like this every morning. He motions to the mallasadas. But, Jocelyn likes things a certain way, so we are just getting settled. There is a reason she earned the nickname Queen Jocelyn.
MEL: Can I tell her you told me about the nickname?
KAI: laughes. She knows she’s gotten on my nerves when I start calling her that.
MEL: Kids? You didn’t answer that question.
KAI: I definitely want a lot of kids. Jocelyn has a pretty big family and I know she does too. But, despite the packaging, I’m pretty traditional and think we should be married first. Jocelyn, well, I have to convince her of that too.
MEL: It’s my turn to laugh. I’m sure you can figure out ways to do that.
KAI: wiggles his eyebrows If there is a man for the job it’s me. How about we walk down the pier and I show you one of my boats?
JOCELYN: That’s what he promises all the pretty girls.
Again, I am struck by just how beautiful Jocelyn Dupree is. She has one of those New Orleans accents that seem to drip with lazy sensuality. As before it is easy to see why Kai fell for the woman. She has one of the perfect faces that I know would look wonderful on film. Although she makes the most delicious treats, she has a trim figure. She leans down to slip one arm around Kai’s neck and kisses the side of his face.
KAI: I’m just trying to show Melissa a good time. And, I believe we’ll have space for the whole family tomorrow.
MEL: Sorry, but we are on our way back late tonight. But I might have to take you up on that offer in a year or so. Trying to convince some readers to go on a Hawaiian trip with me.
KAI: I’ll hold you to it. Why don’t we walk down to the pier anyway and then I can walk you back to the Hale Koa?
JOCELYN: And, I packed up some mallasadas for the kids and hubby.
MEL: Thanks so much. I know they’ll enjoy them.
We leave Jocelyn talking to a customer about a custom cake order, Kai guides me down the street and starts to tell me some funny stories about tourists he’s had on his boats. The morning sun is bright, the breeze light and the smell of sea and plumeria fills the air as I enjoy a morning walk with a good looking man on a beautiful Hawaiian morning.
