The Maison Chronicles series takes place at a resort in the mountains north of Los Angeles. As your travel agent, I strongly recommend you to book a vacation there.

Ten Reasons to Book a Weekend At Maison Domine

10. It’s a great escape from the fog of Los Angeles.
9. They offer free Wi-Fi. True, it goes sadly unused, but people actually have other things to do besides work.
8. I hear the view from the mountaintop is spectacular…though many people don’t spend their time gawking at it.
7. The on-site masseur, masseuse, and aesthetician, though I haven’t heard of anyone yet having the free time for spa treatments.
6. Their full-time chef makes gourmet food to die for. If it also fuels you up for a long night of spanking or flogging, that’s just a fringe benefit.
5. The guest rooms are lushly appointed: deep, long couches perfect for…uh…cuddling; a huge four-poster bed reminiscent of Victorian romance. Really–the posts are for the romance, I promise.
4. Katrina Lamont, the club’s owner, is a sweet French-American woman who makes every guest feel welcome. Unless they’ve been naughty boys, of course.
3. The whole basement is set up for private themed parties. Of two. Three, if you’re being adventurous.
2. Each private room is well-stocked with party favors, like floggers, crops, cuffs, and blindfolds.
1. If you go alone, you’re guaranteed to meet a hunka hunka burnin’ love who’s more than happy to, uh, show you the ropes.

If you are so inclined to do more research before planning your trip, you have a few resources available to you, tour guide written by true insiders. I’d recommend reading “Maison Domine,” (found at Samhain, Nook, and Kindle), “Mastering Lara,” (found at Smashwords, Nook, and Kindle), and “His Only Hope” (Samhain, Nook, Kindle)

Skylar Kade, self-avowed hedonist and princess extraordinaire, started her writing career after throwing aside yet another romance she could not bring herself to finish. The run-on sentences! The purple prose! Oh, the horror of it was just too much. So she sat down to write her own tale. Her favorite part about writing is the extensive research.

She currently resides in sunny southern California, alternately cursing the polluted air and adoring the often-perfect weather. Skylar spends her time asking the cabana boys to bring her more mimosas and feed her strawberries while she dreams up her next naughty adventure.

You can find her erotic romances at Samhain, Siren, and Ellora’s Cave, in print and e-book.

Catch Skylar on her website, at the Nine Naughty Novelists blog, or visit her on Tumblr, Goodreads, The Facebook or The Twitter.

This time, he’s not giving her up without a fight.

The Maison Chronicles, Book 2

After two grueling years caring for her terminally ill mother, Hope O’Shea is eager to start fresh. Except her first interior-decorating job is for a popular BDSM club—part of her kinky past she misses, but had to leave behind.

Worse, she somehow ends up in the arms of her ex-Dom, Gabriel Cassidy. The one man who could strip her emotions bare, so bare that rather than reveal her painful history, she ran.

Gabriel never understood why Hope left without even a goodbye. Determined to get answers, he entices her to Maison Domine for a weekend on the promise of meeting the owner for another decorating job. Except being with her again reminds him why he loved her in the first place—and why she shouldn’t trust him as her Dom.

As their attraction reignites, Hope is transported back to the sub-space bliss she felt only with Gabe. Then a nightmare from her past shows up at the club, and with no other safe place to turn, she has no choice but to trust Gabe with her shame. Leaving Gabe with a devastating choice—reveal his last secret…or lose his Hope.

Product Warnings: This book contains a feisty interior decorator, a dominating leather worker, heart-wrenching sex and redemption.

Hope O’Shea thought she’d never set foot in The Sunset Strip ever again. She’d been out of the scene for two years, which had been good for her. She shivered, remembering the handful of times she’d come here.

On her return to LA, Melina, the Mistress who owned the popular BDSM nightclub, contacted her to redesign the whole place. Dammit, the things she did for old friends and new clients.

This Saturday night, like most, the club’s otherwise inconspicuous entrance saw an overwhelming amount of foot traffic. Housed in a ’50s-era office building, it was impossible to guess what the dark brick walls held, so long as one ignored the interesting mix of characters entering and exiting.

Hope shook her head, exorcising thoughts of the past. Strands of newly cut and dyed auburn hair flew into her eyes, and she brushed them away. She missed the convenience of ponytails, but her stylist assured her the shorter hair was “chic and professional”.

“It’s now or never, Hope.” She nodded at her reflection in the visor mirror and used the lure of a giant paycheck to shore up her courage before leaving the safety of her SUV.

Her spike heels, three inches high and fire-truck red, clicked on the pavement from the large parking lot across the street to the club entrance. Clammy hands smoothed invisible wrinkles out of her new black pantsuit. It wasn’t proper scene attire, but it would have to do, because even if her old corsets and lingerie hadn’t been too big on her, she wouldn’t have worn something seductive for a business meeting.

The red French doors loomed ahead and an invisible weight settled on her chest. Despite her work with a therapist and her progress, panic attacks still loomed like storm clouds.

Too tense, that was her. She poured herself into work, eschewing any distractions in order to build her client list. Maybe once she had her business up and running she could try to find vanilla recreations.

But no more BDSM. No more vulnerability.

She eyed the club and appreciated the irony. Myriad outlets for her anxiety could be hers for the night, if only she asked.

As nice as one night of submission might be, it would be a step backward. It would be her relying on someone other than herself.

One of Melina’s security team, decked out in leather pants and black T-shirt, opened the door for her. A quick thanks and she was inside, heading down the short hall to the main office. She wanted to get this over with as soon as possible, before temptation overruled her better sense.

Instant Satisfaction
by R.G. Alexander on Sep 29th, 2011 29 Comments »

I was the last to self pub (you’re not surprised are you?) But after my first experience, I definitely see the advantages.

For example, the story currently out Eternal Guardian Book 4.5 of Children of the Goddess series, may have never seen the light of day. Which would have been a shame since so many readers were wondering where the heck my hero had disappeared to. Doing this, I was able to satisfy their curiosity and give them a hint about the drastic change in the COG world, starting 300 years later,  that will be coming in Alexei’s book.  And I discovered while writing it that Max is even more of a pivotal character than I had imagined.

A lost warrior, an infinite passion…a world that is almost out of time.

Max is an Igigi warrior, a Sariel guard who has always fought to protect those in his care. When he wakes from a wound that should not have harmed him, in a world where nothing is as it should be, his first thoughts are for his duty. Not himself.

She has watched him for thousands of years. Beyond the gods and the whims of fate, she has loved him. But love was not what she was made for, and she was content with that design…until a single action threatened to unravel time.

Only the strongest of warriors can save the future of the Goddess and her children. Will Max fight Time itself…or walk away from his destiny and the heart of the woman who loves him?

I also didn’t think I could open Photoshop correctly, let alone make a cover. But I really wanted to stay true to the beautiful art Anne Cain had given the entire series. And so, instead of proving I was as lacking in artistic talent and technical skills as I imagined, with the help of Eden’s Sam Saturday and a lot of Youtube videos lol-I actually ended up creating a cover I love!

Self pubbing will give me opportunities this year that I’ve never had before: to write a holiday story that actually comes out around that holiday, to write side stories in popular worlds that readers have really wanted, and maybe even write another contemporary (gasp) So keep your eyes open in October and December *wink*

And then, of course, there are the Smutketeers plans for future series :)

I love all  my publishers. And I plan to continue to keep writing with them as long as they will have me, but I am enjoying self pubbing too. It gives me a definite sense of satisfaction.

UNBOUND CONTEST

Just post here and be entered to win a $10 Amazon gift card, so you can buy whichever of the Smutketeers self pubbed books you want. Or all of them lol :)

Also-catch up with the other posts and tomorrow we will all pick our winners and the winner of the steampunk journal!

ALL FOR SMUT AND SMUT FOR ALL!!

Resistance Is Futile

And I have been assimilated…into the realm of self-publishing! It’s something each of the Smutketeers have tried our hands at. We’re still navigating these new waters, figuring out what our readers want to see from us, what we want to write, and how to do it all. Luckily my boyfriend, the infamous Sam Saturday, has been here to hold my hand through all the technical stuff (okay, he’s doing it all for me *G*), and did most of the work on the cover, which leaves me free to focus on the writing!

My first self-pubbed project has been EVER: THE TURNING. This is a short novella, a prequel to my best-selling Midnight Playground vampire series. My intention in writing this book was mainly to please readers of the series who always want more of Ever, the owner of the Midnight Playground club in London. And to be honest, I wanted more of him, myself, so writing this was no hard chore!

But this book is a bit different from my average vampire fare in that it’s not exactly a complete story in itself. Ever’s story is in Book Four, EVERSONG, which will be released October 4th.

Instead, EVER: THE TURNING is about his history, and about the beginning of the Midnight Playground clubs. It flashes from 891 A.D. to London in 2042, and gives readers a little insight into where Ever, my ancient Viking vamp, came from, and the tragedy that has kept him from loving a woman for a thousand years.

This story may not please those readers who haven’t read any of my other Midnight Playground books-I’m not certain what response new readers will have to this prequel story. But I hope that fans will read this story and see how Ever has evolved over the centuries. I don’t think one can live for a thousand years and not go through enormous change. Think of what ten years-twenty-can mean for us!

Let’s take a look…

The Midnight Playground series

London, 2040

The world-wide economic crisis has finally allowed the vampires to come out of the shadows in which they’ve hidden for untold centuries. The first of the Midnight Playground vampire sex clubs is founded in London’s old Palace Theater, and mankind comes to know the vampires, to worship them as gods. These dens of the ultimate in sexual deviance and utter luxury are revered, the Kiss of the vampires yearned for, and given only to those few who are fortunate enough to gain entry—both the Seeking Kiss, that exquisite drink offered to the human sex partners of the vampires, and the Turning Kiss, the exchange of blood which gives the eternal gift of immortality.

But with immortality comes a lifetime of regret, loss—and the possibility of love everlasting

* * *

EVER: THE TURNING
Love may die, but it is never forgotten…

As a young Viking in the late ninth century, Ever’s ship is destroyed in a catastrophic storm, killing his brothers and crew. Avoiding the fate of his shipmates, Ever is rescued by the beautiful, savage vampire Vérún, who lustfully Turns him from human to immortal, creating a unique and enduring bond.

But as the decades pass, Vérún becomes enveloped by the weight of time. Even Ever’s great love for her is unable to save her from her fate. But that love will last for eternity…

As the prequel to Eden Bradley’s erotic vampire stories, “Ever: The Turning” connects the series’ past to its future, revealing the origin of the Midnight Playground Clubs and giving new meaning to their existence.

Sam, who runs Saturday Buffet, a video production company for authors, made a gorgeous trailer for this book! (And authors-he’s running an awesome special right now!)

I have more plans to self-pub! I’ve had the rights returned to me on two older contemporary BDSM stories that I plan to do major overhauls on, and one in particular will probably nearly double in length. I hope to get those out in the coming months. And the Smutketeers have already brainstormed a shapeshifter series with some unique twists that we’ll work on together. We’ll be guided by Crystal, our shapeshifter expert, for which I’m very grateful. Our Skinwalker series will be packed with heat and emotion-I can hardly wait to get started!

But next up will probably be my long-awaited steampunk erotic romance, THE DREAMBOX GIRL. I’ve been dying to get to this story! I’m totally steampunk obsessed (some of you may have noticed *G*), but this story is already taking me in unexpected directions, and I’m only in the early planning stages. So many stories, so little time. *sigh*

We’re really enjoying the freedom self-publishing allows us, in regards to the kinds of books we can put out, and we can do it on our own schedule. We hope you’ll all enjoy our self-pubbing efforts! To give one lucky reader a small taste, I’m giving away a copy of EVER: THE TURNING to continue our Unbound Contest! Just comment here and let us know what you’d like to see from the Smutketeers-any one of us, or all of us as a group. What genre/character/theme do you crave? Let us know how to give you all what you desire most! I’ll announce my winner at the end of the week! And what the heck-I’ll throw in another of my e-books just to sweeten the pot-or rather, to spice it up!

You can buy EVER: THE TURNING on Amazon Smashwords B&N

Anybody who doesn’t know the Tom Petty song the post title references should click here, just so we’re all on the same page.

Okay, RG says we’re supposed to talk about our self-published work. The stuff that we figured out how to edit, format, do cover art for, and upload to various ebook retail sites like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, etc. It’s a lot of work, but it also gives us all kinds of control over our work. INFINITE POWER!!!! **giddy evil laugh**

Heh.

Okay, I’m good now.

Where was I? Oh, yes. Self-published books. I’ve put out a few short stories this year that were self-pubbed. My most recent one, The Marion Kind, is one I’m especially proud of, because I made the cover myself. It’s not a super complicated cover, but I made it, so to me that makes it super special. The best cover ever. Mine all mine. (Do we sense a me-me-me theme when it comes to self-pubbing. Hm.)

THE MARION KIND
Smashwords | B&N Nook | Amazon
Marion’s all tied up over Kurt. Why? Because she wanted a little thrill in her small-town life and got it by dating the town bad boy. Only it went way beyond a mere thrill in under a week. Now, a year later, she wants to know when they’re going to take it to the next level. She wants it all and she wants it with him. So she asks him to marry her. When he doesn’t react at all, she walks out, realizing that her mother was right…the bad boy isn’t the marrying kind.

But Kurt’s not about to make it that easy for her to leave. He’s had a week to get angry over her stomping off. So what if he has to tie her to the bed to get her to listen to him? He won’t let her avoid him forever, and if this is what it takes to get her attention, so be it. He’d never thought Marion wanted anything other than to burn up the sheets with him, but he’s thinking about it now…and he’s ready to be all tied up over Marion. Until death do them part.
—-

I also put out a couple of free reads this year that I self-published. I didn’t do the covers on these ones. Instead, I turned things over to the talents of my friend Dayna Hart, who writes lovely stories and can occasionally be bribed into using her mad skillz with photoshop.

These two stories are sequels to my book Carnal Desires (and In Ice in the Sexy Beast V antho, which has the Kesuk story RG always talks about). I loved being able to wrap up a few of the characters from the Carnal Desires world, because so many of them tugged at my heart and wanted a story too, even if it was a little one.

IN THE FLAMES
Smashwords | B&N Nook
Prince Taymullah has been made Regent of the weretiger planet, Vesperi, while his elder brother is away on the annual trade run. It’s important that he not upset the balance of power among the weretiger prides during his temporary reign. But his hand is forced when the woman he loves is bethrothed by her father to another man. What would Taymullah risk for love?

IN THE TEMPEST
Smashwords | B&N Nook
Humiliated and abandoned by a weredragon lord sworn to mate with her through political arrangement, Lady Adriana refuses to mate for anything less than love—even if it means refusing the advances of the commanding Lord Baleel. Adriana believes he’s only after the prestige mating with her will bring him…until he forces her to see that his pursuit of her has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with love.

There’s also a special Kindle edition bundle that costs $.99 because Amazon wouldn’t let me make it for free, so I squished them together so you’d at least get more for your money. I figured some people would rather pay the buck than figure out how to download, upload, shuffle files around from Smashwords to Kindle, but it’s up to you. (I’m one for convenience myself, but I like pushing the button and poof, it’s on my Kindle. Heh.)

Right now, I don’t have any real solid plans for self-publishing anything else, but my fellow Smutketeers tell me we’re percolating on something that all four of us will contribute to. All for Smut, and Smut for All, right?

Okay, so as a reward for making it all the way to the end of this blog post, I’m offering up a copy of my ebook, The Marion Kind, to one commenter. I’ll declare a winner at the end of the week. Thanks for stopping by!

Braving the Wild Frontier
by Karen Erickson on Sep 26th, 2011 34 Comments »

It’s a whole new world out there, my reading friends. And we’re all benefiting from it. Self-publishing allows an author a certain freedom to offer her readers more options. I know I’ve certainly taken advantage of it (as have my fellow Smutketeers). Let me tell you a little bit about my self-publishing journey so far.

I self-published a short little sexy story with a holiday theme last fall entitled A Very Sexy Christmas. It was previously published at a now defunct e-publisher (my one and only e-publisher secret shame) and I was always sad it didn’t really have its time to shine. So I polished it up, changed the title, got a new cover and ta da.

Christmas will be here soon. If you haven’t read A Very Sexy Christmas, you should give it a try. Can’t beat the price (99 cents!).

Then there’s Indulgent Pleasures. The idea behind this book came to me out of nowhere and I wrote it fast. We’re talking fast fast. I thought it had promise so I made the agent rounds with it and I got nowhere. I put it away. Just forgot all about it until last spring and all the talk of self-publishing got me thinking…

I mean, who can resist a heroine with a secret and a hunky former pro baseball player who have lots and lots of sex? Plus, it’s a full length novel. At $2.99 it’s a steal! I really love this story and I’m so glad I self-published it. I’m even contemplating writing a sequel or two. A few readers suggested I redeem a particular character in the book. We’ll see.

Finally, I must talk about Melt With You which is slated to release one week from today on October 3rd.

Dragging a man into a supply closet at work so she can maul him—that’s so not Lanie’s style. But there’s something about Wes, the sexy paramedic with the bad reputation, that she can’t resist. After a terrible breakup, a move and a job change, Lanie’s ready to indulge in some new and exciting adventures. But Wes wants more…

From the moment he meets Lanie under um, stressful circumstances, Wes is a goner. Yeah, he has a reputation around the hospital as a serial dater but lately he’s thought about settling down. And he believes the petite nurse with the curvy body might be the one. Too bad she only wants a quick affair.

Lanie can’t deny the chemistry between them is strong but will she take a chance on fate? Or will she let Wes go?

You see, I had just wrapped up my Fated series and I created this character who I believed deserved his time to shine. Knowing that it would take a while to get the novella on the schedule at Samhain (who the Fated series is published with), I decided to write it for self-publication. I asked the cover artist who designed the covers for the series and she came up with the sexiest cover. I’m in love! This one will only be 99 cents as well. I can’t wait for it to come out – and hopefully my readers are excited too.

This is the great thing about self-publishing. It allows us authors to provide our readers with more books to choose from. And though I don’t want to go strictly to self-publishing, I do like having the option.

In celebrating that option, I’m going to give away my first two self-publishing books (A Very Sexy Christmas and Indulgent Pleasures) to one lucky commenter. Just leave me a comment and let me know if you’ve read any self-published books lately. Are you liking them? Loving them? Hating them? Not even trying them?

I’m reading Bella Andre’s new self-pub’d series right now (I’m on book two and I’m reading it slo-o-o-owly so I can savor it. Because damn it, I don’t think the next one is out until November!). Talk about a self-publishing success story. She’s done very well in the self-pub’d waters and she’s traditionally published. I love her!

Share with me your latest self-published reads and you’re entered! Good luck!

Smutketeers Unbound Contest-Yes another one :)
by R.G. Alexander on Sep 25th, 2011 36 Comments »

There is a self publishing storm going through the writer community, with everyone from first book virgins to long time, successful veterans dipping their toes in this uncharted water.

The Smutketeers are always open for new adventures, its kind of our thing, so we wanted to be a part of it. Taking control of the entire process-from cover to code-has been challenging.

Some of us have written prequels and books connected to our current published series, some of us have tried something completely different. All of us have found it to be a little bit addicting. Power is sexy ;)

So, since its still September, still technically the Smutkeversary, we’ve decided to talk about our self pubs in a little more detail over the next few days before all our guests start dropping by and new releases come out in October.

And of course-we’re giving something away :)

Something for you to self publish your own smutty thoughts and secrets in

So stayed tuned for the next few days while we tell you about our experiences, recent releases and upcoming stories. Post here to win and spread the word. We need more Smutkedettes if we’re going to take over the world. :)

ALL FOR SMUT AND SMUT FOR ALL!

What does that mean to us? It means that Smutketeers stand by each other, brag about each other, carry the load for a time if one of us is overwhelmed. We have fun together, we’re a bad influence-and a good influence-on each other. For example I never used to notice if I was wearing brown shoes with black pants (for shame).  And I think that, in our own way, we ARE all doing a little world saving.

If you smile or blush or laugh out loud… If you give your husband or partner the wiggly eyebrow because reading one of our stories gave you an idea to do a bit of research on your own…If you forgot about your troubles because you got too caught up in vampire or shifter politics…then we’ve succeeded in saving a part of the world that day. Making it lighter (read: smuttier)

We, along with our growing number of Smutkedettes, are a team. We share our shoes, new tattoos, our laughs and our blues :)

And here I am. The innocent Smutketeer. Or at least, that’s my claim. I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer, wandering through life, trying on all sorts of jobs, searching for a fit.  When my husband-the Cookie-told me to stay home and write a story I’d had knocking around in my head-I had no idea what would come after. Its my anniversary too, as well as the Smutketeers. It was 5 years ago this month that I submitted my first book, and started going to writer forums to find out how to write the query letter, as well as the steps I needed to take to start this career that I now can’t imagine not doing…with these people that I now can’t imagine not knowing.

I have written over 20 books and five series as R.G. Alexander (and counting). I’ve won bestseller awards (thank you Smutkedettes) and been blessed with some lovely reviews and fantastically loyal readers.  I’ve recently released a novella connect to my Children of the Goddess series, Eternal Guardian.

Book 4.5 in the Children of the Goddess series available at Amazon for 99 cents! (Soon to be available on Nook-keep looking)

And I’m planning on releasing a new story connected to the Wicked series in October, as well as a release from Berkley Heat in November. That one is called Tempt Me, and its set in the same world as Possess Me, with the Toussaints, Rousseau’s and Adair’s all present and causing trouble again.

In the Big Easy, there’s a legend women long for: a sexual voodoo spirit who can fulfill their darkest fantasies. And in these three steaming-hot novellas, he helps three New Orleans couples achieve the ultimate satisfaction…

In Release Me, Allegra heads down to New Orleans to heal her wounds, but she never expects to lose her heart to such a quiet, troubled man as Rousseau. She’s even less prepared for the scorching, sexual spirit within him-and what he can do to her…

In Reclaim Me, Ben has loved Michelle as long as he can remember. But his beautiful artist has a way of running away from life-and what the pair could be. Leave it to the infamous spirit to help Ben prove to Michelle where she belongs: in his embrace…

In Redeem Me, it’s All Saints’ Day, the one day the voodoo spirit can walk the world in the flesh. When he bumps into Bethany, she might just be the reincarnation of a girl he once loved. Passion ignites, but can the couple overcome past mistakes and have a real chance at love?

Gabriel Toussaint Giodarno has returned to New Orleans to make amends with his estranged family. The last thing he expected was to be hounded by a magical wannabe-guardian angel-or to be tempted by a beauty who’s strictly off-limits.
Angelique Rousseau has always lived a safe, uneventful life. But when her friend’s twin brother arrives, Angelique finds herself drawn to him. Neither Gabriel nor Angelique is prepared for the intensity of their joined passions, or what the voodoo spirits have in store for them…

But I suppose, the most interesting thing that pertains to our Smutkeversary, is that I have a two story book coming out in March 2012 under my penname Rachel Grace for Berkley Heat. This book is clockworky steampunkiness wrapped up in heat, and it was inspired by the Smutketeers. In fact, the story idea came on around the same time we decided to create the group blog. Of course, back then it was Smutketeers in Space…and now…well not so much :) Geared for Pleasure: An Elemental Steam Romance is the first collection in my homage to my beautiful, swashbuckling friends.

The world of Theorrey runs like a well-oiled machine. The elements are in balance, passion is tamed and the young queen is the heartbeat of it all. But in these two all-new stories of elemental steam, nothing is ever as it seems…

Earthly Desires
Demeter “Dare” Senedal is the Queen’s Chalice—her protector and closest companion. So when the queen goes missing Dare rushes to locate her, even though the search leads her straight into trouble.

A gentleman who trades in secrets and sin, Bodhan revels in carnal delights… But when a naked and bound woman appears on his shore, his hunger to possess wars with his need to protect. As Bodhan shares his knowledge of pleasure, Dare must decide if she can trust him, both with her mission and her heart.

Fiery Temptations

Seraphina always lands on her feet. After all, she is a Felidae— more feline than human—and an excellent thief. There has never been a job Phina wouldn’t take or a man who could tame her…until she meets Cyrus Arendal.

As the Queen’s Sword, Cyrus should have known better than to fall victim to a beautiful bandit. Now, to find and retrieve the moonfire dagger, he’ll need to convince Phina not to judge a man by his station, but by how completely he can satisfy her desires.

So…a lot coming up :)
