Obsessed with R.G.’s POSSESS ME-out August 3rd!
by edenbradley on Jul 26th, 2010 24 Comments »

R.G. Alexander’s first book for Berkley Heat, POSSESS ME, is coming out on August 3rd, and we’re SO excited! This is a beautifully told story of love, lust and possession-figuratively and literally. Here’s a li’l peek:

In the Big Easy, there’s a legend women long for: a sexual voodoo spirit who can fulfill their darkest fantasies. And in these three steaming-hot novellas, he helps three New Orleans couples achieve the ultimate satisfaction…

In Release Me, Allegra heads down to New Orleans to heal her wounds, but she never expects to lose her heart to such a quiet, troubled man as Rousseau. She’s even less prepared for the scorching, sexual spirit within him-and what he can do to her…

In Reclaim Me, Ben has loved Michelle as long as he can remember. But his beautiful artist has a way of running away from life-and what the pair could be. Leave it to the infamous spirit to help Ben prove to Michelle where she belongs: in his embrace…

In Redeem Me, it’s All Saints’ Day, the one day the voodoo spirit can walk the world in the flesh. When he bumps into Bethany, she might just be the reincarnation of a girl he once loved. Passion ignites, but can the couple overcome past mistakes and have a real chance at love?

To celebrate the release of POSSESS ME we’re having a countdown party, and some of our smutty author friends have been happy to participate! I asked them this question:
Eden: I me want to know about that experience of being ‘possessed’. I don’t mean by a ghost, but rather that feeling you get when a man completely inhabits your every waking moment, you can’t stop thinking about him. Obsession. Raging desire. You know what I mean…

Here are the answers from some of the leading authors in erotic romance, and our dear friends:

“I can’t say I’m the sort of person who gets obsessed about anything apart from maybe my extreme devotion as a teenage to various pop/TV stars. But I love it when my characters become obsessed with their perfect match. There’s nothing like writing about that intense sexual need to possess someone entirely, to lick their skin, to be naked with them 24/7, to just want to be with them and breathe them in. As romance writers we get to write about that first taste of love, which is very often obsessive and makes for great sexy scenes.
My hero, Christopher Ellis in ‘Kiss of the Rose’ ends up becoming obsessed with the heroine, (in a good hot sexy way) and I loved watching him succumb to that most instinctive of states, and bearing in mind his history, his instincts are definitely unusual. ‘wink’”

~Kate Pearce, author of THE TUDOR VAMPIRE CHRONICLES

(**BTW-Kate’s latest, KISS OF THE ROSE, is out on the same day as POSSESS ME!)

Eden: I love that you address taste and scent-so much a part of that intense chemistry!

“The first time I was truly possessed was when I watched Thundercats. My family never owned cable, so I had limited access to “cool” stuff. I found Lion-O in his strappy onesy incredibly kinky. He had an innocence and a stupidity about his flowing mane most of the time, but when the chips were down, he could bulk up, get serious, and power into a man with a giant-ass sword. I was fifteen. And I was captivated by the whole world of isolation, natural paradise, psychic powers and technology. Now I’m all grown up and am writing kinky scifi-fantasy shapeshifters. They say you always remember your first. “

~Mima, author of WITHIN REASON

Eden: This reminds me of being a kid-maybe five years old-and I was in love with Kimba the White Lion (does anyone remember that cartoon?). Yes, he was a lion. And he was animated. Hey-I was five! But I totally get it, Mima. Although no lion shapeshifters for me…but never say never.

“Being possessed by a love is a full body experience. It’s like the object of your love permeates your soul, encompasses every heartbeat, gets into every cell and hums. Your bones tremble in tune with their voice. You taste them on the air, hear them in the wind. Being possessed by love is enthralling and makes you feel alive.”
~Inez Kelley, author of SALOME AT SUNRISE

Eden: I love how sensual your interpretation is. It’s like that for me, too-it can really take over the senses.

“Obsessive love makes you do things that you tell yourself you will never do. Things like driving past his house just to see if he’s home yet or sitting by the phone from 5 o’clock on because he said he’d call you “tonight”. Things like calling in sick to work because he decided he wants to go on an impromptu trip mid-week and you can’t stand to not be with him. You might even help him write his master’s thesis, just to help him get it done sooner. You are not a morning person, but you’ll let him in at 6am to spend some time with him before work. And if you could kiss him forever, you know it would be paradise. You forgive him for stuff you would tell your friend to dump her guy over. Things like that phone call to a “friend” on your hotel bill when checking out after your romantic getaway that wasn’t great or perhaps figuring out he’s actually in town on Valentine’s Day when he says he’s away and realising he’s with someone that’s not you. You believe him when he tells you that no one will love you like he loves you. And you believe the stories he tells you because he is your drug of choice. He is what wakes you up and makes you feel alive. His possession and this obsession will send you from the heights of ecstasy to the depths of Hell. And even after you get out, even after you are years away, your heart still picks up a pace when you think of him.”

~MG Braden, Author of VAMIRE ORACLE: HARMONY

Eden: Aw-yours is so sad. But true, too. *sigh* There can definitely be a dark side.

“Describing what it feels like to be possessed may be hard to describe. It’s such an elemental feeling, so consuming, I shiver to dive into the depths of it. Yet I will… The first time I saw my husband…

I saw him standing there with his booted feet crossed at the ankle. He wore tight jeans with a few rips, a t-shirt and a black leather vest, topped with a bad boy attitude that immediately commanded my attention. It begins with the shiver of awareness, that whisper dancing up my skin, making the small hairs stand at attention. My stomach clenches as heat radiates out from below my waist, sending slow pulses through my body, growing stronger as it travels outward.

My nipples pop like small pink diamonds, reacting to his raw sensuality and his nearness. My breath puffs out in short bursts as warmth seeps into every fiber of my body.

He turns to look at me and one corner of his mouth kicks up. I swallow the lump in my throat and step toward him, ready and willing, to be his.”

~Beth Williamson, author of UNBRIDLED

Eden: Oh, I love this! And I know that sensation, where your breath catches and you go hot all over…and after that moment, you can never stop thinking about him…
